PPCB, Army to plant 50,000 saplings in city

The Nahar Group of Industries will assist in the plantation drive and maintenance of trees till their maturity. KS Pannu, IAS, chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board, held a meeting with the Army authorities and representatives of industry to finalise the plan for plantation of trees in Patiala. Flower and shade trees such as Gulmohar, Shrin and Sukhchain, Neem will be planted. Also, fruit-bearing trees will be planted in select locations. The Forest Department will supply the required plants. The tree plantation will be carried out by jawans and their families. The necessary fertilizer, tree guards and the logistic support will be provided by the Nahar Group of Industries. During the meeting, Pannu said, “The plantation of trees is necessary for the protection of environment. Maintenance of planted trees will be ensured.” He stressed the need for close coordination among different departments in identifying the vacant lands and carrying out the plantation.
